Ferrari x Alba
Occasionally, you encounter a design brief that falls outside your usual scope of work. In 2025, we were commissioned to create a livery design for Ferrari x Alba. Alba had just joined the Ferrari team as its only female driver and would be competing in the F1 Academy series.
The objective was clear: develop a distinctive and personal design for Alba that would stand out among her competitors. Our research into Ferrari’s heritage revealed several obvious directions. A red or yellow helmet would have been the natural choice; however, these colors were already strongly associated with Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton from the Formula 1 team.
Instead, we looked deeper into Ferrari’s history and discovered that in the team’s early years, Ferrari mechanics wore pale blue suits. Additionally, Formula 1 legend Niki Lauda wore a similar pale blue race suit during his first season with Ferrari. Inspired by this, we selected the historic blue tone “Azzurro La Plata” as the primary color.
To celebrate Alba’s Danish roots, we combined the blue with red and white accents. The darker red, “Rosso Maranello,” is a historic Ferrari shade, adding depth and legacy to the design. The white is a subtle off-white tone, chosen to complement the more muted color palette.
In a category where helmet designs are typically highly colorful and often lean toward maximalism, it was important for us to create something clean and refined—paying homage to Scandinavian design traditions. We opted for a matte finish to give the helmet a modern edge, along with a bold name/logo placement at the rear to ensure strong visibility from the car’s onboard camera.
The sponsor logos were predetermined, making placement and color integration critical to maintaining the integrity and balance of the overall design.
